Abstract:
The project addresses a currently salient topic on a scholarly, political and social level: population movements and their connections with identity. The analysis is multidisciplinary, approached through different social and human sciences (history, linguistics, philosophy, cultural anthropology, sociology, political sciences, and ethnography). The required expertise in all these fields is provided by established academic institutions (four institutes of the social sciences and humanities at the Iași Branch of the Romanian Academy and the University of Bucharest) and two relatively young universities, which nevertheless show promising potential in the investigation of migration, identity and cultural heritage (the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of Lucian Blaga – University in Sibiu and the Faculty of Letters within the Northern University Centre in Baia Mare). The envisaged objectives of this complex institutional project are: 1) developing relevant infrastructure and human resources for long-term research; 2) designing methods, models, and theories on the relationship between migration and identity and validating them through Romanian case studies; 3) increasing the international visibility of Romanian science; 4) developing the research component among the less experienced partners, and reinvigorating research in some academic units; 5) delivering to the public administration, diaspora community, cultural NGOs, and economic agents impact studies, didactic tools, high-level technical assistance in the study of the migration phenomenon, as well as in their efforts of preserving and enhancing the heritage and cultural identity. The project will have a short, middle and long-term impact on: 1) the consortium partners and the Romanian academia; b) social, political and cultural practices in Romania; c) the economy.

Abstract:
The project entitled The Audio-Visual Linguistic Atlas of Bukovina (ALAB). Second Part, envisages to continue and develop the first phase of the pilot project The Audio-Visual Linguistic Atlas of Bukovina (ALAB). First part (project code: TE_244, 2010-2013), during which the first electronic version of a Romanian linguistic atlas was elaborated, using for the reproduction of the linguistic material the sound-video image combination – an unique accomplishment for the Romanian linguistic research community and among the first in the field in Europe. Using the most recent achievements in linguistic mapping digitization, and having a vast experience of atlases digitization (NALR. Moldavia and Bukovina, a priority project of the Romanian Academy), the research team accomplished the first field surveys in 7 localities in Bukovina between 2011 and 2013. The survey was achieved using the latest-generation equipment, which enabled us to post the results of the survey online, on the project’s website (http://www.philippide.ro/alab_new/harta.php). In the second phase of the project, the team aims to extend the ALAB network to 10 new localities and to continue the series of innovative approaches, developing the initial application with a digital archive that will include documents written in the dialectal record (letters and other old documents in informal style), collected from the personal archives of the surveyed subjects, an aspect that will grant a pioneer status to the atlas.

Abstract:
THE PROJECT THE AUDIO-VISUAL LINGUISTIC ATLAS OF BUKOVINA (ALAB). THE FIRST STAGE INTENDS TO ACHIEVE, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE ROMANIAN RESEARCH, A LINGUISTIC ELECTRONIC ATLAS THAT WILL USE THE SOUND-VIDEO IMAGE SYNCRETISM IN RENDERING THE DIALECTAL MATERIAL IN .HTML FORMAT. TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE LATEST RESULTS IN THIS FIELD (SPRACHATLAS DES DOLOMITENLADINISCHEN UND ANGRENZENDER DIALEKTE, ATLAS LINGUISTIQUE AUDIOVISUEL DU VALAIS ROMAND) AND USING OUR OWN EXPERIENCE IN COMPUTERIZING THE NEW ROMANIAN LINGUISTIC ATLAS ON REGIONS. MOLDAVIA AND BUKOVINA (A PROJECT THAT RECEIVED THE OCTAV MAYER PRIZE OF THE IASI BRANCH OF THE ROMANIAN ACADEMY, IN 2006), THE RESEARCHERS’ TEAM WILL ACCOMPLISH FIELDWORKS USING QUESTIONNAIRES AND THE LAST GENERATION TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT THAT WILL ALLOW THE CREATION OF A SITE WITH THE RESULTS OF OUR FIELDWORK IN AUDIO-VIDEO FORMAT. THE INTERFACE WILL BE INTERACTIVE AND WILL PERMIT THE USERS TO HAVE ACCESS TO A LINGUISTIC MATERIAL COMPARABLE FOR THE WHOLE POINTS NETWORK, A MATERIAL THAT WILL BE PRESENTED IN THE CONTEXT IT WAS OBTAINED. THIS METHOD THAT CREATES THE CIRCUMSTANCE OF KEEPING THE SPONTANEITY OF THE ANSWERS OFFERS THE POSSIBILITY OF ANALYZING THE VARIATIONISTE PHENOMENA THAT BECOME CLEAR ON THE PHONETIC LEVEL OF THE SENTENCE (SANDHI PHONETICS) AS WELL AS ON THE SUPRASEGMENTAL LEVEL (INTONATION STRUCTURES) OR EVEN PRAGMATIC (THE USE OF PRAGMATIC CONNECTORS, OF THE CONVERSATIONAL STRATEGIES ETC.). IN CONCLUSION, CORROBORATING A QUESTIONNAIRE MEANT TO BE USED FOR A DOCUMENTATION OF THE LINGUISTIC, PARALINGUISTIC AND NON-LINGUISTIC PHENOMENA WITH A DIGITAL SYNCRETIC TECHNIQUE OF COLLECTING THE LINGUISTIC MATERIAL MAY ACHIEVE AN INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA DOCUMENT DATABASE THAT WILL FACILITATE AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH IN THE ANALYSIS OF THE GEO-AND SOCIOLINGUISTIC VARIATIONS.
