Abstract:

General objective of the project is to create a new scientific approach in contemporary visual art and to start up an advance form of specialization in restoration/conservation based on rigorous organized information about new materials and techniques, all with full and deep respect for contemporary artists and their production. The general objective is absolutely thought not to constrain the artists’ practice, but to inform them and to create necessary set ups and information database as decisive knowledge for the restorers’ community of tomorrow.

The behavior of new materials for contemporary artists use, and about their preservation are rarely discussed and never treated in organized way, at least in Romania.

The project enforces a treasure of information and experience generated by decades of researches for cultural heritage conservation as a first input for an extended research for new materials stability, polluted urban environment stress control, for degradation mechanism understanding, and preventive conservation practice for contemporary art.

It will consist in elaboration, testing and evaluation of method for investigation addressed contemporary art objects that have been made with new materials. It aims creation of the first methodology for scientific study and start collection of data for organized database including test results and case study examples.

Project operates with a competent and very active consortium for such challenging topic.

Support materials for high education, training and specialization will be published – they will be elaborated for different level of competencies and for categories of users, with adequate terminology and with stressed specific topics of maximum interest.

A special kind of result is the platform of communication and cooperation, which will host all other results of the project, a large volume of information and that will initiate a new attitude.
