Abstract:
In the era of hyper-connected digital economies, the smart technologies play a vital role in the operation of the Electrical Power and Energy Systems (EPES), transforming it into a new, decentralised model with multiple benefits, such as distributed generation, pervasive control, remote monitoring, and self-healing. However, the growing number of cybersecurity incidents in EPES promotes the need for shielding against a variety of threats, ranging from cyberattacks, dynamic and evolving Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), and privacy violations, to electricity disturbances and severe human errors caused by lack of relevant training. The diverse threats that modern EPES are facing require novel and holistic solutions that employ cutting-edge technologies to detect and mitigate threats, while continuously assessing the dynamic EPES environment, ensuring compliance with the latest cybersecurity standards and training the EPES personnel to appropriately respond to cybersecurity incidents and mitigate the human-error factor. Considering these, ELECTRON aims at delivering a new-generation EPES platform, capable of empowering the resilience of energy systems against cyber, privacy, and data attacks, while fostering the cyber protection standardization and certification via three novel authorities.

Abstract:
To achieve its energy goals EU needs to establish a geographically large market by initially improving its cross-border electricity interconnections. A geographically large market, based on imports and exports of electricity, could increase the level of competition, boost the EU’s security of electricity supply and integrate more renewables into energy markets. Electricity should, as far as possible, flow between Member States as easily as it currently flows within Member States, so as to increase sustainability potential and real competition as well as to drive economic efficiency of the energy system. To this end, FARCROSS aims to address this challenge by connecting major stakeholders of the energy value chain and demonstrating integrated hardware and software solutions that will facilitate the “unlocking” of the resources for the cross-border electricity flows and regional cooperation. The project will promote state-of-the-art technologies to enhance the exploitation/capacity/efficiency of transmission grid assets, either on the generation or the transmission level. The hardware and software solutions will increase grid observability to facilitate system operations at a regional level, exploit the full potential of transmission corridors for increased electricity flows that will facilitate transition to flow-based regional market coupling, consider cross-border connections and their specific ICT and grid infrastructure, planning to use a wide-area protection approach to ensure the safe integration of renewable energy sources into the grid, mitigate disturbances, increase power system stability. An innovative regional forecasting platform will be demonstrated for improved prognosis of renewable generation and demand response and a capacity reserves optimization tool will be tested to maximize cross-border flows. The non-harmonization of national regulation will be studied and measures will be recommended to avoid distortion of the technology benefits.

Abstract:
With the growth of renewables, the increased interconnection of European grids, the development of local energy initiatives, and the specific requirements on TSO – DSO cooperation as set forth in the different Network Codes and Guidelines, TSOs and DSOs face new challenges that will require greater coordination. The European Commission adopted legislative proposals on the energy market that promote cooperation among network operators as they procure balancing, congestion management and ancillary services. The measures encourage procurement of services at both the transmission and distribution level, recognizing that this will enable more efficient and effective network management, will increase the level of demand response and the capacity of renewable generation. TSOs and DSOs must now define the services they want to procure in collaboration with market participants, and must set up ways to procure them in a coordinated manner. Digitalisation is a key driver for coordination and active system management in the electricity grid, enabling TSOs and DSOs to optimise the use of distributed resources and ensure a cost-effective and secure supply of electricity but also empowers end-users to become active market participants, supporting self-generation and providing demand flexibility. To support the transformation, the INTERRFACE project will design, develop and exploit an Interoperable pan-European Grid Services Architecture to act as the interface between the power system (TSO and DSO) and the customers and allow the seamless and coordinated operation of all stakeholders to use and procure common services. State-of-the-art digital tools based on blockchains and big data management will provide new opportunities for electricity market participation and thus engage consumers into the INTERRFACE proposed market structures that will be designed to exploit Distributed Energy Resources.

Abstract:
FLEXITRANSTORE (An Integrated Platform for Increased FLEXIbility in smart TRANSmission grids with STORage Entities and large penetration of Renewable Energy Sources) aims to contribute to the evolution towards a pan-European transmission network with high flexibility and high interconnection levels. This will facilitate the transformation of the current energy production mix by hosting an increasing share of renewable energy sources. Novel smart grid technologies, control and storage methods and new market approaches will be developed, installed, demonstrated and tested introducing flexibility to the European power system.
FLEXITRANSTORE will promote increased cross-border electricity flows using the valorization of flexibility services. The project takes both a national and a regional approach, acknowledging the need to seamlessly integrate national markets, particularly in the South Eastern European network, which still lacks the high interconnectivity that the rest of the European network has.
The FLEXITRANSTORE project is in line with the ETIP-SNET 10 year R&I Roadmap and the ENTSO-E R&I Roadmap 2017-2026, which identify the main evolutions of the power systems in the decades to come. These evolutions include an ever-increasing penetration of Distributed Renewable Sources and controllable Distributed Loads. The objectives of FLEXITRANSTORE are complementary to the R&I Roadmaps and will impact both new and existing market participants. FLEXITRANSTORE will provide the necessary technical and market advancements to facilitate the safe and seamless transition towards this new era.
FLEXITRANSTORE will develop a next generation Flexible Energy Grid (FEG) which will be integrated into the European Internal Energy Market (IEM), through the valorization of flexibility services. This FEG addresses the capabilities of a power system to maintain continuous service in face of rapid and large swings in supply or demand. Thus, a wholesale market infrastructure and new business models within this integrated FEG should be upgraded to network players, offering incentives to new ones to join, while demonstrating new business perspectives for cross-border resources management and energy trading.
FLEXITRANSTORE will transform the European Power System through interventions that target the whole Energy Value Chain.

Abstract:
The project aims to create a virtual e-learning platform for learning, assessment and continuous medical training in dental prosthetics using the 3D applications of virtual reality (VR) technology as complementary instruments meant to improve the educational process, subsequently transposed into models of clinical cases virtually presented, during a real stage.
The VR technologies can be included into the e-learning system, according to specialized studies . The E-learning offers efective access to information, new methods for training, learning and knowledge assessment, continuous professional training and represents an alternative to education in today’s computerized society. The learning method is by experimenting.
In the American, European and Japanese universities the majority of systems based on VR technologies are in their experimental stage, the issue of dental prosthetics in dental medicine being less or not at all approached. From the dental prosthetics perspective, a complex system of virtual simulation for specificaly clinical procedures of fixed and removable partial dentures has not been conceived.
The project is structured in three stages: the virtual cloud stage, the virtual laboratory stage and the real stage. This approach will allow the users (students, dental technicians and beginner doctors residents) more work perspectives.
The e-learning system aims to create a web portal (software platform) for students, residents and dental technicians that will allow the virtual expansion of the training classroom within the faculty or home. This shall allow all of those involved in the learning process to acquire the clinical knowledge for dental prosthetics. The main user benefit is the thorough study of the new technologies.
The applications can be used together with the entire group of trainees in a virtual (synchron) environment or can be used separately, as an asynchronous learning.
The virtual simulation laboratory based on the 3D technologies allows activities for small trainee groups contributing to an effective participant monitorization. The project allows practicing from simple interventions to complex prosthetic preparations. The 3D simulatilon environment provides the advantage of flexibility, variety and experiential validation of the work. The educational platform is focused on the simulation of fixed and removable dental prosthetics.
The advantages of the solution proposed consist of using an e-learning cloud platform that provides acces to complex software applications, where calculating rate and storage capacity are practically unlimited, data are available anywhere and at any time in a secure environment, allows almost automatic transfer and sinchronization of data with other devices that users operate on (laptop, tablets, etc.), ensure safety due to the fact that data cannot be lost or subject to unauthorised access as the database server is reductant and has secured acces. Also the advantage consists in the use of a single 3D software platform in the first 2 virtual stages (with an easy to use interface, high flexibility, high degree of accuracy, integration of haptic devices that provide force feedback and increases the reality degree of the works created) and the real stage where to practice the knowledge gained with the help of material models that should keep all the clinical conditions of the virtual simulation.
The virtual e-learning platform maintains and improves the quality of the teaching process by introducing modern computing technologies, facilitates the degree of concepts learning, increases the receptivity and encourages the competitivity between trainees. The virtual e-learning platform proposed contributes to the development of the human capital, and to the increase of competitivity in research, development and innovation.

The project "Integrated monitoring and control system for real-time complete assessment of the functional status of the power grids assembly" aims at finding solutions for the on-line monitoring of the functional state of the entire power system.
The project benefits from the know-how and experience of NOVA INDUSTRIAL S.A. a company that designed, manufactured, delivered, installed and put into operation, the equipment and related software for the SMART GRIDS pilot project that includes three high-voltage substations (110 kV and 400/220/110 kV) belonging to CNTEE Transelectrica (the Romanian TSO) – the project was appreciated as a premiere.
The proposed project aims at finding solutions for the on-line monitoring of the functional state of the entire power system, using innovative products dedicated to the on-line monitoring of power stations (EMCSIT range) and overhead power lines (based on sensors), respectively encapsulating the gathered information into a complex software system for the on-line and off-line monitoring of the high voltage assets from the national power system.
The project will generate an integrated software system dedicated to the monitoring of the momentary technical condition of the Romanian National Power System that will allow:
• Real-time monitoring of the network status parameters (via sensor networks), such as: the operational parameters of the power equipment from substations (power transformers, shunt reactors, circuit breakers, current transformers, arresters, etc.) and high voltage overhead power lines; their momentary technical condition; deviations from the normal technical/ operational states; etc.;
• GPS detection of the monitoring devices;
• Data remotely transmission / communication and storage in a dedicated database;
• Data processing and analyzing;
• Technical condition diagnose, via a dedicated software;
• Alerting the system operator in case of preset particular conditions;
• Achieving the dynamic system map, from which anytime it results information about the installations in operation / withdrawn from service, information about the momentary technical condition of the major components of the power system (primary equipment and high-voltage power lines), etc.
The software system will ensure real-time verification of completeness and correctness of the power system operation from the technical point of view, the evaluation of the technical condition of the power equipment and installations, the data storage (both on-line and off-line for the history of operation) into a UNIQUE database (modern, flexible and operational nationwide), it will allow risk assessment, determining the urgency, nature and hierarchy (importance) of the maintenance works.
The amount of information to be used (for complete real-time estimation of the functional state of the power networks) is at least ten times greater than that of the "classic" SCADA systems.
The singularity of the proposed methods consists in mixing two action trends: integrating several areas of know-how in a single expert system (including sensor networks) and realization of an integrated (software) expert system, for the on-line monitoring of the momentary technical condition of the Romanian National Power System.
The project is intended to create a core of a highly scientific and technological competence in compliance with the European standards, in a Romanian company, being a unique research project on the industrial maintenance and reliability, considering both the risks specific to the energy industry (Romanian and from other countries) and the Smart Grids concept as well.
The project complies with the new guidelines in the Romanian and the European Union energy policy.

Abstract:
The main objective of our project will be to develop and test a benchtop real-time multimodality imaging system for guiding breast tumor resection by intraoperatively evaluating the status of surgical margins on the excised specimen. This OCT/reflectance imaging systems will share a common path optical probe. Our efforts will be focused on the development of the dual imaging system and common path probe, as well as on preliminary testing of the system on excised surgical specimens. Currently, there is no good means to intraoperatively detect remaining tumor tissue at the margin of surgery. The Consortium participants propose to develop a novel technology that will allow for accurate identification of positive breast surgical margins during the surgical procedure. This technology, based on a multimodality imaging approach combining reflectance spectral imaging with structural optical coherence tomography imaging, will provide the surgeon with real-time feedback with the exact location and amount of tissue that has to be removed. A benchtop system will be designed, fabricated, and used for preliminary testing of this approach. After successfully completing this project, a clinical prototype suitable for intraoperative use will be developed and tested in a real clinical setting. A high sensitivity and specificity dual-modality imaging platform will provide the surgeon with real-time information about cancer spreading, allowing for complete removal of cancer foci, which otherwise cannot be identified with current clinical instrumentation. The proposed platform can be easily extended for guiding surgery on other organs, like brain, prostate, etc. The development of a multimodal imaging technology and instrumentation for the intraoperative evaluation of surgical margin status during breast cancer resection will have a sizeable impact on the medical community.

Abstract:
Simple behavioural intervention consistently generates energy savings but, since electricity prices are given in abstract and unfamiliar units for most of the consumers, and monthly billing ensures a temporal distance between usage and payment, people need more information to make better energy use decision. Consumers must be able to understand their energy usage and therefore, the central objective of the proposed project is the development of a smart device capable to provide real-time information about the energy consumed by every individual classes of home appliances (electric bulbs, refrigerators, TV sets, HVAC, etc). It is an unique approach since no device currently available an the market enable such a detailed analysis that turns the data into valuable information. The project consortium consists of participants with multi-disciplinary expertise their presence being mandatory for the project success. All the participants have extensive generic expertise and case study specific expertise, and the consortium is in that respect highly qualified to carry out the intentions and work described in the SigMET project. Beside the above mentioned technical expertise, also the solid institutional capacity of the participating institutes in the project, proved by their long-standing collaborations with industrial and academic partners in national and international funded research projects, is minimizing the project risk. Furthermore, all participants have stated their commitment to allocate the adequate human resources to guarantee the successful implementation of the project.

Abstract:
Skin cancer is among the most common forms of cancer in the USA, Australia, and Europe and is increasing in incidence in other parts of the world. The rising incidence of non-melanoma skin cancer, such as basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), makes the investigation of the tumors of this type to represent a subject of maximum importance at this time. The precise visualization and understanding of cellular and sub-cellular structures specific to cancer tumors is essential for establishing a correct diagnostic at a very early stage, as well as for the efficient monitoring of the tumor evolution and of the effects of the administered therapy. We propose to develop and use a commercially unavailable microscopy system, FASNOM, to advance the current understanding on the morphological and autofluorescent nanoscale features found in freshly excised human non-melanoma skin cancer and normal perilesional skin samples. The diagnostic potential of fluorescence imaging and spectroscopy lies in the ability to noninvasively probe alterations in tissue morphology and biochemistry that occur during malignant progression. In this purpose we propose to exploit nanoscale information on the properties of endogenous fluorescent biomolecules present in human skin in order to distinguish between normal, pre-cancerous and cancerous epithelial tissues of different types with high specificity and sensitivity. In the proposed project high importance will be given to identifying nanoscale (

Abstract:
The proposed project addresses the needs of South-East European TSOs in their effort towards harmonization and integration of the region with the rest of the European power network. Diagnostics, modeling and monitoring generate huge amounts of data that create the need for efficient storage and analysis of the collected information for better decision making and execution; under this respect the use of a common computational platform is highly recommendable and will be a focus of the proposed project. The project objectives are: • Assist in harmonizing regulatory and commercial frameworks in South East Europe to facilitate cross-border trading of both power and grid services, ensuring that they will accommodate a wide range of operating situations; • Development of systems and tools that will enable TSOs and other players in the energy field to utilize innovative service arrangements to improve their efficiency and enhance their services to customers; • Develop and implement methods and techniques for capacity calculation and allocation. • Establish corrective procedures to ensure security of power transmission and grid connections. • Ensuring the successful interfacing of new and old methods and tools for the representation and modeling of power networks. The consortium has a strong representation (50%) of TSOs that take part from the initial to the final stages of the project to ensure appropriate input of information, proper use of methods and techniques and practicality of outcomes. Academic institutions with expertise and research in the field are heavily involved through their electrical engineering departments. Furthermore international cooperation is ensured with the participation of two TSOs and two academic institutions from EU neighboring countries. The results/products of the project that are in electronic form (software, data) will be publicly available (open source) to researchers and businesses for further development and implementation.

Abstract:
Ob1: Promovarea ofertei educaţionale a universităţii prin campanii de derulate în cadrul liceelor, cu accent asupra celor situate în medii defavorizate;
Ob2: Imbunătăţirea serviciilor de orientare şi consiliere a studenţilor, in special a celor proveniţi din medii defavorizate, în vederea integrării rapide după absolvire în piaţa forţei de muncă;
