Abstract:

This project has its rationale in the reality of the military occupations of Moldavia and Wallachia (1769-1774; 1787-1792; 1806-1812; 1821; 1828-1829; 1848-1851; 1853-1857; 1916-1918) for period of time chosen. The specific scientific objectives are the following ones: a) to historicise the concept of military occupation, thus introducing the Romanian case into a broader historical debate about European security; b) studying the cameral practices, with a special focus on public health, administration and territorial construction, as results from concepts like PolizeistaatandKameralismus; c) branching out into new areas such as the interaction between history of ideas and international history; d) analysing and dissecting the political relations between occupants and occupiers; e) last, but not least, the realisation of a prosopography of military occupations included in this research proposal.The study of the military occupations of Moldavia and Walachia means providing indispensable insights into the history of the making of modern Romania.

Abstract:

The research project that we propose has as main theme of study the power, in its political, social, ideological and symbolic articulations.The historical investigation assumed focuses on 18th century Moldavia, with some chronological extensions, dictated by the necessity of a better historical understanding.We focus only on one problem, precisely circumscribed to the theme, but relevant as expression of the movements of men, interests, ideas in the political space, seen as a field of power. We have in mind those demarches among the elite, which took the form of some conspiracies, aiming to create solidarities for a plan, to obtain external support, with the purpose to renew the power, in accordance with the expectations of the society.The distinction between the ordinary intrigues of the boyars and these conspiracies is essential for our demarche, because it covers, in our understanding, a more complex reality.It is about assuming „in the sight of the country”, of a political act that proposed the overthrowing of the legitimate Prince,to whom they owed submission and obedience.Another dimension was the social one,the disobedient sought support in the depth of the society, based on the patronage relations, which derived from kinship and services, to confer power to their demarche.The texts proposed by the disobedient illustrate the aneed to claim assert the legitimacy of their act,to avoid,in the perception of the society,their placement in the register of a negative alterity

Abstract:

The present research aims to study successive (both explicit and implicit, textual, iconographic and ideological) expressions of the comparison between human body and the organisation of Romanian society. The approach deals with contextualized interpretation of concrete-historical meaning of these occurrences and the significance of their representations for the evolution of political and social organisation from Middle Ages to late 20th century. The research will to take into account both historical and cultural realities of Byzantine and post-Byzantine world and those specific to Central and Eastern Europe. This way, the project aims to offer a new perspective on Romanian history, by diachronic revealing of how political and ethnic community was fancied. In terms of approach, the innovative nature of this study, which belongs to the highly topical history of political and ethnic representations, derives both from the focus of analysis on anthropology and the methodology of research, which connects case studies with cultural and artistic comparative explorations.
