Abstract:
ASGARD is a Large Scale Integrated Project supported by the EU within 7th Framework Programme, focusing on research of advanced/novel nuclear fuels fabrication and their respective reprocessing issues for Generation IV reactors.
It is coordinated by Chalmers Technical University (Prof. Christian Ekberg).
ASGARD seeks integration between reactor, fuel and recycling communities, which today is lacking. In some cases it results in discrepancies between the reactor design on one hand, and the technological feasibility of fabricating, dissolving and reprocessing the selected fuel on the other hand.
ASGARD is an integrated effort of 16 institutions from 9 European countries.

Abstract:
In proiect se propune elaborarea unei noi tehnologii pentru producerea izotopului 15N la concentraţia de 99% at. 15N şi in cantităţile cerute de utilizarea pentru
obţinerea combustibilului de tip nitrură. Pentru reactorii nucleari avansaţi şi Accelerator-Driven Systems se pune problema utilizării unui nou tip de combustibil nuclear
sub formă de nitrură de uraniu (de exemplu) cu 15N, (U15N). Nitrura de uraniu are conductivitate termică de 5 ori mai mare decat oxidul de uraniu, permiţand scăderea
presiunii gazelor de fisiune şi a altor fenomene care deranjează: fluajul, ruperea pastilelor de combustibil, etc. Acestea reprezintă avantaje importante pentru
combustibilul de tip nitrură şi permit diminuarea preţului combustibilului nuclear. Tinand cont de aceste dificultăţi se consideră că folosirea combustibilului
de tip nitrură este viabilă numai dacă se optează pentru izotopul 15N in nitrură, care este stabil şi are o secţiune foarte mică pentru captura de neutroni.
