Abstract:
The acidic attack from cariogenic bacteria found in dental plaque biofilm growth over the tooth is responsible for dental caries, also known as tooth decay, which is a biofilm-dependent infectious disease that damages teeth by minerals loss and presents a high incidence of clinical restorative polymeric fillings. The complexity of oral biofilms contributes to the difficulty in developing effective novel dental materials. Oral cavity represents an ideal environment for the microbial cell growth, persistence, and dental plaque establishment. When the complexity and volume of biofilms from the gingival crevice increase, chronic pathological conditions such as gingivitis and periodontitis can occur, predisposing to a wide range of complications. In this context, nanotechnology has potential to be explored in the development of bioactive dental materials to reduce or modulate the activities of caries-related bacteria. The project NanoDent proposes an original recipe based on nanometric phosphatic compounds enriched with phytosynthesized metallic nanoparticles and natural bioactive compounds, with simultaneous antibacterial and enhanced mechanical properties as a potential dental restorative material. The validation of the proposed technologies to obtain novel materials will be obtained via third-parties studies, performed through subcontracting.

Abstract:
Fruit processing industries contribute more than 0.5 billion tons of
waste worldwide, and grape crops and its industrial products are one of
the main agro-economic activities in the world, with more than 60
million tons produced globally every year. The grape industry,
specifically the wine industry, is generating by-products rich in
nutrients, which are underutilized and often end up being polluters of
the environment. After grape juice extraction, the remaining materials
are currently not valued as highly profitable waste, being mainly
discarded in open areas, potentially causing environmental problems.
Chronic exposure of human skin to solar UV radiation is widely
recognized as the key factor responsible for photo-ageing. For these
reasons, the role of photoprotection is critical to avoid skin cancer and
others undesired effects.
In this context, the general objective of the project “Formulations of
protective cosmetic products obtained by applying integrated and
sustainable bioeconomy approaches - BioProtect” is to propose the use
of nanomaterials both as active ingredient and delivery system of
bioactive compounds (mixtures of phenolic compounds-rutin and
quercitin) recovered from grape by-products for development of UV
blocking cosmetic products. Target molecules obtained through green
technologies from grapes by-products can be used as potential active
UV blockers in cosmetic formulations being delivered by substituted
hydroxyapatite (with Fe - FeHAP). The use of FeHAP has a double role:
active ingredient with UV protection properties and delivery system for
the bioactive molecules.
The project starts from TRL 2 and aims to the validation at laboratory
scale of the technology (TRL 4). Validation of the proposed technical
solution will be performed by third parties.

Abstract:
In the last decades, new perspectives have emerged among both specialists, and the general public, regarding the preservation and enhancement of the cultural heritage. Conservation-restoration contribute to the safeguarding and understanding of the cultural property that benefits present and future generations, in its historical and aesthetic sense, in its physical integrity, its context and its uses. In the last years, the specialists in the field of materials science proposed a series of innovative materials and methodologies, applied in different areas, including the diagnosis and conservation state monitoring or preventive measures, implemented in order to reduce the need for interventions. However, as the degradation processes of cultural heritage objects remain inevitable, the continuous development of advanced materials able to counteract specific degradation processes is also necessary. Thus, are needed thorough scientific studies in order to develop tailored formulation, in order to protect, preserve, and restore cultural heritage objects, and this represents a continuous challenge for the scientists, aiming to replace the current rather serendipitous approaches in restoration. In this context, the project “Innovative multifunctional composites for the protection of cultural heritage objects” (INHERITAGE) aims to develop novel multi-layer composite materials with multiple functions (consolidation, self-cleaning and anti-microbial) applicable for the conservation of different inorganic substrates.

Abstract:
New technologies, based on nanoparticles are continuously introduced and developed in a large area of application fields, among them, biomedical and pharmaceutic products. The scope of the present project is to prepare some nanocomposite materials with intrinsic antimicrobial properties and to characterize their functionality. The new materials intended to be synthesized in this project are innovative metal nanoparticles (Silver and Copper-Gold nanoparticles) uniformly dispersed in polyurethane (PU) foam. The technology used for nanoparticle synthesis, recently developed at INCDIE ICPE-CA, based on radiation-induced chemical transformations, is environmentally friendly, because no chemical reagents (besides the nanoparticle precursors) are required and no chemical wastes emerge from the process. Another aim of the project is to exploit/ valorize the results recently obtained within earlier research projects by developing new functional models of materials with high antimicrobial activity and wide efficiency spectrum. This type of materials can be used in a wide area of applications, in particular in hospital environments (as for example structural elements of hospital mattresses and toppers, pillows, floor mats, cover materials for different surfaces or as components of various medical items, such as catheters, hydrogel support for bandages (dressings) a.s.o.). Given the current pandemic context caused by SARS CoV-2 and high percentage of nosocomial infections in hospitals, the project results will help to reduce the effects caused by such health crises, improving the health of patients and medical staff. On the other hand, given the multitude of practical applications of these polyurethane foams, the project results may open up new opportunities for the development of value-added antimicrobial PU based products (paints, footwear, dressings, etc.).
Due to its specificity, the project falls within the domain of public priority "Health".

Abstract:
The project goal is to transfer (towards ICPE Bistrita S.A.) and develop an innovative technology for depolluting the waters coming from drinking sources containing heavy metals and As into a complex pollutants matrix. The technology will be developed at the TRL 6 technological level, and implemented as a pilot plant at the headquarters of an important regional operator in the field of water treatment and supply (Aquatim S.A.). Considering a complex water pollution both by metals (Fe, Mn) and nitrogen compounds (e.g.the ammonium ion NH4+) and in the presence of a natural organic matrix, the elimination of such pollutants simultaneously with the removal of arsenium is a task nearly impossible to carry out via the actual technologies under reasonable operational and energetic efficiency circumstances. It is proposed an innovative integrated technology using synergic stages of advanced oxidation (catalytic ozonation) with on-site produced oxidising agents, integrated with a filtering / biofiltering stage (for the removal of ammonium and the retention of the oxidising products) and of an adsorption step based of adsorbing nanomaterials for the targeted elimination of As. An additional element of novelty is represented by the utilisation of the nanomaterials based on modified apatite systems, with a nanowire-type morphology, as adsorbing material for the efficient inexpensive removal of the arsenic species. The technology on which the project is based depart from a technology developed and validated at the laboratory level by the ICECHIM team, ensued from a Research Project within the NUCLEU programme - Nanotechnologies with Applications for Monitoring and Protecting the Environment (PN.19.23.03.02), which is the subject of an invention patent request - CBI A00380/2019- (OSIM) 'An Adsorbing Agent with Magnetic Properties, Based on an Apatite Material, for Treating the Waters Impurified by Organic and Inorganic Compounds, and the Method for Obtaining the Same'.

Abstract:
Present project proposal “High performance phytosynthesized
nanostructures as biosensor platforms for detecting pathogenic
microorganism from food matrixes” is based on a modern and “green ”
method of obtaining mono and bi metallic nanostructures (mono and
bimetallic gold, silver copper nanoparticles) with the help of natural
extracts from cruciferous vegetables, in order to obtain sensing
platforms with high selectivity and specificity able to detect microbial
pathogens from food matrixes. The absolute novelty of the proposed
solutions and the foreseen results allows us to hope that potential
stakeholders (identified during the project) will be eager to take over
and implement these technologies, leading to social and economic
benefits, together with an important contribution to the increase of life
quality. The formulated concept of the product (related to the obtaining
of mono and bimetallic phytosinthesized nanostructures) and the
technology (the development of the sensing platform for detecting
pathogenic microorganism from food matrixes) will be the basis of the
project development. In the project will take place the analytical and
experimental characterisation of the product and technology that will
be developed (referring to the obtaining of innovative nanostructures -
TRL 3), the project being finished with the validation of the proposed
technologies at laboratory scale, through analyses performed via
third-parties laboratories (TRL 4). After the project implementation
period and protection of the technologies through patents, the
consortium aims at large scale prototypes and demonstration of the
functionality of the proposed solutions in real-life systems (TRL 6).

Abstract:
The scope of the current project proposal is to develop novel micro- and mesoporous materials (MMMs) using recent synthesis methods and to further functionalize these materials for developing better performances in order to be used as drug delivery systems (DDS), especially for microbiota-related diseases. These drug delivery systems are developed for oral administration and are expected to be protected within the stomach and maintain their activity until reach the desired site. Even if these drug delivery platforms are extensively exploited in the literature for several types of applications as DDS (hosting anticancer, anti-infectious or analgesic agents), the field of microbiota is only marginally treated. Nowadays, especially in the case of children, the awareness about the importance of the microbiota is well known, therefore after an antibiotic treatment, the prescription of probiotics is frequently needed. In the project’s boundaries, natural substances (polyphenols and vitamins) used as biological active agents will be loaded into the porous platforms, in order to assure a positive feedback to the microbiota due to the antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities. In recent years, great emphasis has been placed on the development of micro and mesoporous materials loaded with biological active agents, but few research papers discuss the impact of functionalized MMMs on microbiota. In the current project, the main goal is to develop innovative MMMs with enhanced pore system able to host and deliver biological active agents (vitamins and polyphenols are expected to be used) for the treatment of the microbiota-related diseases. because most polyphenols have low solubility, two innovative delivery systems will be developed in order to assure triggering delivery / smart delivery.

Abstract:
The project ‘Comprehensive Approach to support Precision Agriculture and environmental management through satellite technologies and classic methods of investigation – CAPA’, addresses a major direction of the 21st century, namely, smart agriculture, bringing new insights into how the climate affects the phenological cycle of crops (through the occurrence of extreme events) and it also contributes to understanding the role of different air pollutants (such as greenhouse gases) in crop development. The project proposes the realization of synergies of the scientific activities integrating data on the complex eco-agro-system-culture relations, obtained by applying a conglomerate of methods and techniques (space technologies, the study of pollutants at the level of air, water, soil and plants), for a modern management of agricultural crops, in the context of intelligent agriculture. At the international level, smart agriculture is also based on the optimized management of the inputs according to the real needs of the crops, for their management and the reduction of the use of fertilizers, fungicides, pesticides and water resources. At the national level, the exploitation of satellite records in the field of agricultural management has not yet a significant spread, being used mainly in applications dedicated to environmental protection, forestry, territorial planning or in the military field. In this context, the project proposes the application and integration of spatial technologies together with in situ and ex situ analyses in the intelligent management of agriculture to monitor certain types of agricultural crops (from a pilot site), thus allowing the development of a successful model for better capitalization. of available resources.

Abstract:
Catalytic ozonation is a highly efficient process for removing most resistant organic pollutants from water and is a key process in wastewater treatment. Improving these technology in order to comply with green chemistry challenges is an important goal purification industry. Catalysts are the core of the process and, in the last decade, numerous studies and patents proposed a large range of materials for better ozone transformation into hydroxyl radicals and performing complete oxidation of the organic substrate. This project proposes a new and innovative class of ozonation catalysts with a morphology that assures an easy contact of ozone and pollutants with solid surface (thin-films) and green and cheaper technology for catalyst preparation using plant extracts instead of harmful chemical reagents (borohydride and organic solvents)

Abstract:
Preservation of historic monuments and archaeological sites has a strategic importance for maintaining local cultural identity, encouraging a sustainable exploitation of cultural properties and creating new social opportunities. Cultural heritage objectives are often exposed to degradation due to natural and anthropogenic impacts. The AIRFARE project will implement, test and promote responsiveness solutions for effective resilience of cultural heritage against identified risks by exploiting the benefits of Earth Observation data wide availability and capabilities.
In this scope, specific EO data analysis tools will be used in order to construct a catalogue of services for cultural heritage monitoring, by integrating classical methodologies such as classification, change detection or multi-temporal interferometry with Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning algorithms. These AI/ML processing algorithms are mature enough to be adapted to be implemented in the EO data processing pipelines in order to be used in the provision of services for cultural heritage monitoring.
A preliminary set of services that AIRFARE could deliver were identified in the proposal based on previous activities / pilot services performed by the university and the R&D institute partners: land-use maps, ground motion detection, archaeological sites, monitoring urban sprawl monitoring, illegal building near heritage sites, flood risk, local conditions, etc.
The AIRFARE project will extend this list, perform a trade-off analysis and further identify associated operational requirements for the services by involving relevant stakeholders such as ministries, institutes, administrators or owners of cultural heritage sites. Based on the outcomes, the algorithms will be selected, adapted and implemented. Lastly, the services will be implemented based on a GMV proprietary platform, tested and validated in an operational environment.

Abstract:
The project goal is the transfer (to ICPE Bistrita S.A.) and the development of an innovative water treatment technology for drinking water from sources contaminated with nitrates and chlorinated organic compounds. The technology will be developed at the technological level TRL 6 and implemented in the industrial environment at pilot installation in a water treatment plant. Considering a complex pollution of water with both nitrates and chlorinated organic compounds in the presence of a natural organic water matrix, its treatment becomes particularly difficult with the existing industrial technologies, under under reasonable operational and energetic efficiency circumstances and without obtaining toxic by-products. The project proposes an innovative water treatment technology using integrated processes of catalytic reduction / oxidation (conversion of nitrates and organochlorinated compounds / ammonium oxidation) and biofiltration (biological conversion of ammonium) that act synergistically, without the use of chemical reagents, with oxidizing agents produced in site (ozone). For the catalytic stage, innovative catalysts, of bimetallic type, deposited on a styrene-divenylbenzene resin will be used. The technology underlying the project starts from a technology developed and validated at the laboratory scale (TRL4) by the partner groups: P1 - UB (PROTMED) and P2 - ICF "Ilie Murgulescu" resulting from a research project funded under the program PNII-PCCA no. 100/2012, (Integrated procedure for the elimination of nitrates and organochlorine pesticides from contaminated natural waters as a result of agricultural activities), being the subject of a patent application CBI A / 00872/2016.

Abstract:
The project is aimed at using the expertise that involved in consortium entities acquired in materials science. The consortium consists of three representative national institutes: INCD for Chemistry and Petrochemistry – ICECHIM Bucharest, INCD for Electrochemistry and Condensed Matter - INCEMC Timisoara and INCD of Chemical Pharmaceutical - ICCF Bucharest, and of two prestigious universities: University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest and the University of Bucharest and a remarkable institute of Romanian Academy: Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry – Petru Poni Iasi. Although having great tradition and noteworthy results, the first five institutions face a series of problems, from the lack of financial funds, equipment and the aging employees for ICCF and partly for INCEMC and ICECHIM, to the lack of highly qualified staff required for recent investments in equipment for all 5 institutions. In this respect, the project attempts relaunching the activity in the first 5 institutions of the consortium, by putting together the existing competencies, so as to develop new technologies in order to obtain new materials with high performance properties. Given that, 3 of the research teams are specialized in polymers (ICECHIM, Petru Poni and UPB) the developed technologies will use the polymers as intermediates or as a component in the finished product. To this end it is envisaged getting the titanium nitride for prosthetic coatings via inorganic-organic polymer nanocomposites, obtaining photocatalytic materials and antibacterial coatings by sol- gel reactions, obtaining of short-life or one-time use biomaterials from aliphatic polyesters and micro or nanocellulose and the development of new polyphase materials with medium or long life, based on biopolymers, through 3D printing. The project intends the full use of A1, A2, B and C checks in order to increase the institutional performance of partners.

Abstract:
The main goal of the project is the development of an innovative and versatile solution (consisting of hydroxyapatite derivatives), solution that could be applied either by incorporation into the building material (primary objective) or by surface spraying (secondary objective). From the project will emerge new solutions to an increasing problem, respectively the microbial loading of various buildings and stone. Either we are speaking of hospitals, where the antimicrobial property of the building itself will be a tremendous help in fighting hospital infections, or historical building belonging to our national or international heritage that needs consolidation and/or surface treatment or stone monuments that needs only surface treatment. The solutions developed in this project will represent not only an alignment to the international level of research, but also a very important technical solution, that will contribute to the project sustainability after the implementation period.
The project proposes the use of metal-substituted hydroxyapatite as antimicrobial component for building materials. This solution will be viable for multiple applications related to its use for new buildings with special requirements related to microbiological loading (such as hospital buildings) and for consolidation of cultural heritage constructions; also the use of substituted hydroxyapatites for protection of stone artefacts against environmental factors (acidic rain) and biodeterioration through spraying on their surface will also be evaluated. The validation of the proposed technologies will be obtained via third-parties studies.
The previous obtained results allows the consortium to define daring targets, while the experience of the researchers involved ensures their fulfilment; in the same time, the potential of the solutions offered at the end of the project will ensure the future development of the project idea towards higher technology readiness levels.

Abstract:
The stucco work façades of buildings, represent one of the most artistic expressions developed by the different cultures, are essential for the Cultural Heritage. During time, these have been exposed to outdoor adverse conditions being severe affected. That’s why, some conservation/restoration works are necessary, without reconstruction of the historical building, and without affecting the original aspect. The project will be focused on historical buildings study, architectural surfaces and stucco work decorations, and will aim: investigations of used materials, typical damage phenomena, identifying the degradation phenomena, evaluation of the conservative state and recommending the conservation and preservation possibilities by using some systems based on nanomaterials embedded into polymer matrixes (patch), for conservation/restoration market.
Firstly, an analysis of microclimatic and air quality data of the building’s surroundings will be performed to evaluate the environmental effects and the possible degradation causes. Then the stucco workes will be characterized in order to identify their composition and possible presence of organic additives, to determine their pore size distribution and to assess their conservation state. Will be analyzed and evaluated stucco work (gypsum/cement), with specific solutions for every one of them.
In this context, the general objective of our project aims at developing solutions for biological disinfection, cleaning, consolidation and conservative preservation with color revival of the stucco work monuments by nanomaterials-based methods, using innovative materials (nanomaterials embedded into polymers) and specific techniques (easier application in liquid state without any destructive intervention). Also, this project deals with the description of stucco with the historical inventory and classification (decorative plasterwork) and pigments used in some monuments from Romania.
To fulfil this aim, following specific objectives are formulated:
O1. Achievement of artistic, architectural, historical and cultural complex research studies on different stucco work’s Romanian buildings, and achievement a collection-catalog for stucco works in the period 1800-1945.

Abstract:
The naphthodianthrones hypericin and pseudohypericin occur in the flowers and leaves of SJW. Hypericin act as an antibiotic and non-specific kinase inhibitor. Hypericin, is being clinically evaluated as an antiviral agent in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Hypericin was proven to be anti cholesterol and useful for blood circulation. In addition, hypericin is under research as an agent in photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) and therapy (PDT), of cancer.
The project target is to elaborate the production technologies for molecular imprinting of polymers with hypericin 1 enantiomer and for using these new materials in selective separations (MISPE), in order to obtain high bioactive concentrates of hypericin. This will allow the better exploitation of the resources of spontaneous flora and hereby to obtain by the “green chemistry” approaches dietary supplements able to prevent or to cure some diseases of the population. The main novelty of the project proposal is that it is intended to obtain molecularly imprinted polymer materials using as template the enantiomer 1 of hypericin, the materials being appropriate for preparative extraction of this enantiomer from primary SJW extracts. The second novelty of the project is the identification of technological parameters for MISPE separation of hypericin on the new materials. The third novelty of the project is the obtaining of high bioactive dietary supplements (concentrates) of hypericin. The many original idea involved in the project realization insures the deposition of at least 2 patent askings.
The hypericin concentrates that we intend to produce from St. John’s Wort are a world novelty. Such products are not yielded in Romania or abroad. Their enhanced bioactivity in preventing or curing some very dangerous diseases such as cancer, HIV, blood circulation disorders and depressions, will enable them to penetrate quickly on national and European markets.

Abstract:
The aim of the SABIOM project is to obtain new superabsorbent materials which could be used in agriculture for water reserving and soil conditioning, starting from biopolymers and using especially green chemistry methods. The superabsorbent materials which will be prepared will also have the capacity of active agrochemicals delivery to the plants in order to protect them against different diseases or to enhance their growth. The novelty of this project is to use bacterial cellulose and other biopolymers in order to obtain superabsorbent hydrogels. This choice was determined by the fact that the majority of the superabsorbent polymers used as commercial products are synthetic polymers as crosslinked polyacrylates or polyacrylamide, and hydrolized cellulose polyacrylonitrile (PAN) or starch-PAN graft copolymers. This project is enrolled in the research efforts which are devoted to develop natural-based superabsorbent polymers starting from polysaccharides and polypeptides (proteins).

Abstract:
The project proposes to carry out a technology for obtaining multifunctional materials based on last generation of biopolymers and bioadditives melt processable into catering food packaging. These packages will comply with the food safety conditions and will have physical – mechanical properties proper to the plastic products that are generally of commodity nature. The national and international novelty and added value of the project is determined by the originality of the propose new conceptual models for realising of new materials with improved thermal stability, small hygroscopicity, melt processable into catering food packaging. The elaboration of new solutions needs inter and transdisciplinary knowledge of chemistry, physics, physics and chemistry of polymers, mathematical statistics, process engineering, scale up and economics. The new technology has a great applicative potential and can be applied on the same industrial platform or on different platforms. All the novelty solutions will be disseminated and will be patented. At present on the Romanian market one can find only packaging made from imported oxobiodegradable pellets which has limited biodegradability. The realising according to the proposed new technology products which in nature will be totally destroyed in a very short time, would turn into the advantaje of beeing the only supplier, on the Romanian market for totally biodegradable products. The technology can be internationally applied by country with the same envoiroment problems as Ramania. The project consortium is formed from 4 partners: ICECHIM (CO), Politehnica University Bucharest (P1), SC Metav CD –SA (P2) and SC ICPAO SA (P3) with complementary expertise. The project manager is doctor and fulfill the eligibility conditions. P1 and P2 has project responsable that are doctors. Because of the great interest for the proposed subject P3 co–funded with 25 % from the entire project fund.
