Abstract:
The general objective of the project consists in the design, assembling and testing in laboratory conditions of an experimental model of outdoor bipolar high voltage vacuum circuit breaker (Un = 27,5 kV, In = 1.250 A, Ik = 25 kA), equipped with remote control and telemonitoring system for the railway electrical grid and its related technology. In order to achieve the submitted objectives, an elite consortium consisting of University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest (CO-ww.upb.ro) and a medium-sized enterprise - ICPE SA (P1 -www.icpe.ro). Throughout the entire project duration (24 months), young researchers and PhD students will be mobilized to be a part of the research teams.
To achieve optimal working conditions and safety for the electrical networks within ELECTRICA and S.N.C.F.R, the existence of reliable circuit breakers is an essential necessity. Currently, in operation there are over 200 circuit breaker units, with electrical arc extinguishing medium consisting of SF6 gas or oil, mostly produced by ELECTROPUTERE Craiova. As they have exceeded their service lifespan and are no longer reliable in operation, it is necessary to replace them. Regarding this matter, the UPB-ICPE consortium proposes a new solution that consists in the development of an outdoor, high voltage bipolar vacuum circuit breaker developed in Romania, using new technologies and materials (advanced vacuum switching, composite insulation, high energy rare earth permanent magnets, sensors and digital interface).
The project starts from TRL2, as the concept is formulated based on a series of scientific articles, patents and research activities in the field of the project. In the present project proposal, the consortium intends to reach the TRL4 level by validating the technology in laboratory conditions, as the two partners have the necessary scientific maturity, experience and resources.

Abstract:
The project main goal is to develop a range of ICT products/services to be applied in critical infrastructure industries (water supplies, power lines, transport and storage of natural gas, bridges, dams), for further vertical integration of ICT and security solutions.
Proiectul are ca scop dezvoltarea unor game de produse/servicii TIC cu aplicabilitate in economia industiilor infrastructurilor critice (precum retele de apa, retele transport energie electrica, retele transport si stocare gaze naturale, poduri, baraje, etc.), pentru integrarea pe verticala a solutiilor TIC si securitate. Sistemul multiplatforma securizat de senzori va asigura:
1) implementarea unor sisteme inteligente de securizare a proceselor si serviciilor din zona infrastructurilor critice;
2) implementarea unor retele de senzori „avatar” pentru securizarea retelei de senzori „reala”, asigurand astfel servicii cu un nivel de securitate ridicat;
3) implementarea si diseminarea unor tehnologii TIC inovative in cadrul companiilor/institutiilor interesate din zona infrastructurilor critice;
4) sporirea utilizarii, calitatii si a accesului la tehnologia informatiei si comunicatiilor; 5) monitorizarea retelelor companiilor/institutiilor interesate din zona infrastructurilor critice;

Abstract:
Project Electromagnetic launcher for drilling rig fire extinction and drones launcer for investigations and interventions-LESI falls in the thematic area 8.5.5 Systems, techniques and methods for restoration of systemic crises of safety, fixed and mobile targets strategic importance (industrial facilities, airports, military units, tanks and oil pipelines, etc.) within Area 8. Space and security research direction 8.5 Systems and security infrastructure.
Recognized as one of the greatest dangers, fire continues to trouble society and research to find the most effective means of fighting fires. Oil and gas installations present a high risk of developing violent fires.
The project aims integration in a mobile system of a launcher, by catapulting using a linear electric motor and a mechanical pre-accelerator, for extinguishing materials or drones carrying such materials to extinguish fires in inaccessible places such as drilling wells and oil installations or wooded areas.
Research developed under the project will consider the limited national and international information about this restricted topic. Poverty of detailed documentation will be a challenge for the research team, but the involvement of the University Politehnica of Bucharest researchers in electrical engineering and the Institute of Mechanics "Elie Carafoli" of the Romanian Academy will bring the contribution of knowledge necessary to achieve project objectives.
Electromagnetic launchers are the latest trends in the field by replacing traditional mechanical methods (steam, gas or explosives) with a linear motor allowing sufficient mechanical compaction for mobility and a controlled thrust to adapt the various extinguish packages and drones thrown.
The electromagnetic launcher solution for fire fighting applications is based on a linear induction motor. To streamline the system and its adaptation to the conditions of mobility, where the energy available and sizes are limited, a mechanical pre-accelerator device is used. The source of energy required by the launch system will be sized to meet the mobility requirements of the assembly.
The technical solution will be verified on an experimental scale model to validate the results obtained by numerical simulations and demonstrate system’s functionality.
The advantages of the proposed system, comparing with existing solutions, consist of versatility of the launched loads from fire-fighting packages to controlled drones. This versatility is given by the compact mechanical pre-accelerator pushing the load previously entering the linear motor controlled accelerator. This initial speed gives increased autonomy and load capacity of intervention drone featuring an increased flying range, or ability to dissipate a greater amount of dust for fire extinction.
Possible applications for this launcher, located mainly in the niche area of the violent fires on drill rigs and oil installations, economic justify implementation costs and can offer the market a product with high added value and proven marketing opportunities on the international market. Co-opting the ICPE-ACTEL partner in consortium aims to value its experience, on electrical power of offshore and inland drilling rigs, to a market potential.
