Abstract:
The in-flight coordination of a group of unmanned aerial vehicles is an active research topic due to its difficulty and application potential especially in the transportation industry.
This project builds upon previous research on drone localization using fiducial markers and attempts to increase its detection rate especially during fast movements when the previous system does not offer any position estimate.
The proposed solution will use a deep neural network for visually tracking a drone and extracting its position relative to the camera.
The two localization methods will work in parallel and a study will be performed in order to compare the two methods as well as to determine the optimal information fusion.
The end objective is to use the composite localization service for a distributed drone formation control application that relies solely on local information.

Abstract:
The principal aim of this research is to interweave powerful factorization results with the development of advanced numerical solutions to extend the applicability of robust control techniques to linear systems under unprecedentedly relaxed assumptions or to descriptor systems. For many robust control problems, albeit the existence of a solution is known to exist in such a general setting, analytic or sound numerical constructions are provided under pretty particular hypotheses which most real–life models do not obey. The research will build on a mighty state-space technique, recently developed by the principal investigator, that gives a complete characterization of factors (invertible/inner/J-inner) that achieve rank compression of a general system, complemented by a technique of dislocating successively any of its structural elements. In a first stage, we will apply these techniques to obtain the (J,J’)-spectral/lossless, minimal, or Wiener-Hopf factorizations for a completely general system (continuous/discrete-time, polynomial/strictly proper/improper, rank deficient, arbitrary finite/infinite poles or zeroes). Further, based on these newly born factorizations, we will approach some open or completely nonstandard problems in robust control: general strong stabilization and controller order reduction, H-2/H-inf/Adamjan-Arov-Krein/robust stabilization of descriptor systems, H-inf control without any regularity assumption, and the optimal H-inf control/AAK problems.
