Abstract:
The quality of bio-molecular sciences education influences fundamentally many aspects of society and our everyday life. One key aspect of bio-molecular education is the structure-to-function relationship in molecules. While this is usually taught using 2D models and images, as well as 3D animations and movies, it has been shown that students prefer the usage of physical models of complex macromolecules. Touching and handling models offer them a more complete and immersive learning experience. Several solutions for creating and fabricating physical models of complex macromolecules from different materials have emerged, but none have the flexibility and low cost of 3D printing. The challenge here is converting the available and scientifically correct structural data into 3D printable files. This proposal is using a workflow developed by the PI and aims to create an automated web service for converting structural data from scientific databases such as RCSB PDB into 3D printable files and printing instructions. Unlike other services available, this tool will focus on printing molecular models on cheap consumer-grade printers and on providing clear printing instructions. The service will be released under the CC BY license as a supplementary measure to ensure the long-term impact of the project - improve the quality of education in all fields related to bio-molecular sciences by providing access for educators and students to scientifically sound and cheap teaching materials.

Abstract:
The project aims to develop aircraft components: fan stator blades, as light as possible, with optimal functional and structural performances, which meet the operating regimes requirements, validated at a technological level TRL 4, and which integrates new structural architectures of composite materials advanced, manufactured using emerging additive manufacturing technologies, with low costs and manufacturing time, compared to traditional technologies (eg autoclave, VA-RTM). The development process of aviation components during the project implementation, follows a logical, staged procedure, starting from geometric design, defining structural architecture, providing 3D CAD model, perform thermo-mechanical characterization at laboratory level and numerical simulations, numerical and experimental results evaluation, in order to identify the optimal structural configuration, followed by the manufacturing of stator blades - Hardwar Prototype (s), testing the manufactured items in different relevant regimes, in correlation with the operation ones, assessment the results and performing the SWOT analysis. The Management and Dissemination activity has two major components: Project management aimed at allocating, monitoring and evaluating project resources, throughout its implementation, in direct correlation with the project objectives, and this task belongs to the project director, and respectively Dissemination of project results which is achieved by involving the entire project implementation team.

Abstract:
The project envisions the creation and transfer of an innovative mechatronic system CoMControl and the related technology designed to solve complex situations in the rehabilitation process, to the economic partner TEHNOMET in order to increase its competitiveness.
Project’s main general objectives are: 1. Development, manufacturing, experimental testing and validation (Proof-of-concept) of the CoMControl prototype, by upgrading at TRL6 of an existing TRL4 mechatronic system; 2. UPB and UMFCD medical rehabilitation research expertise interconnecting with the necessities of the medical rehabilitation systems industrial manufacturer TEHNOMET; 3. Cooperation development between UPB, UMFCD (on one side) and TEHNOMET (on the other side) as a direct answer to the market necessities and national and international challenges; thus it will be realised an efficient knowledge transfer to the market; 4. Entrepreneurship qualities acquirement and development of the UPB and UMFCD researchers by direct contact with the market demands; 5. TEHNOMET innovation capabilities upgrade by creating an innovative product with large marketing potential.
The economic partner is a large enterprise equipped with cutting edge technology but it cannot financially support a new R&D technologies sector that would allow to sustain the rhythm imposed by competition and the increasing exigency requirements of the commodity market. The project envisages how to achieve the interconnection between existing expertise in universities and leading technology of the economic agent as to develop, improve and optimize it in order to produce new, competitive products.
This highly scientific level of technology transfer is achieved from UPB (technological engineering expertise) and from UMFCD (medical expertise) towards TEHNOMET that possesses superior technical endowment.
