Abstract:
Cancer is an intensively studied pathology, representing the second leading cause of death worldwide. Plant natural occurring compounds are an important source for the development of drugs with anticancer effect, with a more targeted mechanism and reduced adverse effects. One of the most studied such classes for their anticancer activity, is represented by pentacyclic triterpenes. The main drawback of using such compounds as an efficient anticancer treatment is represented by the increased hydrophobicity of these molecules, which correlates with a low bio-availability. On this note, a large plethora of synthesized triterpene derivatives were reported in the literature, multiple such compounds showing superior anticancer activities. Recently the use of gold nanoparticles as carriers for compounds with anticancer activity is extensively investigated. Gold nanoparticles provide excellent means for controlled synthesis (shape and size), easy functionalization, and the ability to transport and protect large amounts of loaded drugs. The current proposal aims to obtain triazole-triterpene derivatives and their subsequent formulation as gold nanoparticles bioconjugates, with potential activity in malignant melanoma. Triterpenes selected for derivatization, ursolic, oleanolic and betulinic acid, are substances with already reported antiproliferative effect in melanoma, which will be functionalized at the COOH group through a condensation reaction with a primary amino group present in the structure of several 3-R-4-amino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole derivatives. The selection of triazole structures to be synthesized and used to functionalize triterpenes will be performed using docking based virtual screening methods, by targeting key enzymes overexpressed in malignant melanoma. The synthesized novel triterpene derivatives and their gold nanoparticles formulations will be biologically assessed for their antiproliferative activity in malignant melanoma.

Abstract:
In this project we propose to obtain and experimentally test an innovative magnetic nanobiomaterial, made of ferrimagnetic nanoparticles bioconjugated with gamma-cyclodextrins, forming a hybrid biostructure "core-shell" (core: ferrimagnetic nanoparticle, shell: cyclodextrins), in order to be used with high efficiency and reduced toxicity in the alternative therapy of cancer by superparamagnetic hyperthermia. The obtained nanobiomaterial will be tested in vitro and in vivo for the therapy of breast and skin cancer, cancers with high incidence in the population.

Abstract:
The aim of the present project proposal is to increase the performance and competitivity of S.C TITUS&SONS S.R.L using the expertise and technology existent in the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Victor Babes Timisoara and Politehnica University of Bucharest. The success of the present project proposal is guaranteed by the team who is comprised by members with national and international research expertise. Abstract:
The aging phenomenon and the aging itself are considered major challenges in cosmetology and dermatology research and the use of vegetable principles in combination with nanotechnology represents a current topic in the formulation of therapeutic and prophylactic products.
The current proposal focuses on the synthesis and testing of a dermatocosmetic formulation based on gold nanoparticles and betulin, with anti-aging valences due to gold, considered as both therapeutic agent and delivery vehicle, as well as betulin, active agent that requires suitable delivery at skin level. The main objective, consisting in the preparation of semisolid modern formulations with gold nanoparticles and betulin, can be accomplished through the implementation of appropriate standard technologies (ISO), in addition to the practical training. The project proposes the analysis of a dermato-cosmetic product starting from the preparation and characterization up to the industrial scale production, involving the quality control of the final product.
Due to the beneficial effects at skin level of both compounds, the project proposes a thereof association in order to achieve an optimal semisolid pharmaceutical formulation in preventing and treating skin aging. The related activities are focused on: the preparation and analysis of betulin-gold nanoparticles formulations, the in vitro assessment of their toxicity and effectiveness, according to ISO 10993 and other current standards, the antimicrobial testing and testing on healthy volunteers through: consumer test, sensory evaluation, non-invasive tests.
The final goal of the proposal is the transfer of academic scientific research results towards the economic agent in order to implement a continuous flow of production and testing for modern cutaneous cosmetic formulations.

Abstract:
Responsible management of wastes coming from technological processes is a great priority highlighted by the internal and European legislation. According to the European legislation this means responsible management of chemical wastes by each member state, and also, of all the factors implied the life cycle of all products, and an important economical opportunity as well.
This project has, as main goal, the environment protection by recycling used complex catalysts having as support and flowing agent organic solvents in the purpose of reducing the emissions of heavy metals in environment and reducing pollution with aromatic organic materials. The second major objective, the economical one, deals with the valorisation of metallic compounds as advanced materials for the use in water cleaning systems and the advanced recycling of used solvents and water by means of green chemistry principles. The object of the project refers to the used complex catalyst CuAlCl4*toluene resulted from the COSORB processes, according to the following: separation and purification of toluene, recovery of copper as metallic powder, valorisation of aluminum(III) as flocculation agent in the cleaning water systems. The last objective also means the valorisation of the existent iron wastes at industrial partner, in order to obtain a complex flocculation agent Al(III)-Fe(III).
The objective of the project is placed in the research frame 3. Environment – 3.2.5. Theme Technologies for treating hazardous wastes. According to this theme, we accomplish:
- Chemical evaluation of the used complex catalyst – as waste;
- Establishing a unitary technology starting from the used complex catalyst and iron waste and providing reusable materials as an outcome.
The following steps are involved:
- setting up the separation and purification technology for the organic and inorganic components;
- elaborating the technology of metallic components valorisation as advanced materials;
- elaborating the technology of inorganic components valorisation as flocculation agents for water treatment;
- the design and making of the industrial plant;
- technological processes implementation;
- toxicological control and pollution impact on each step and products.
The novelty of the proposed solution refer to: (i) setting up a unitary technological flow; (ii) selection of the most adequate chemical methods for elaboration of economical and efficient technologies following the principles of green chemistry; (iii) obtaining high purity materials (toluene, copper, flocculation agents); (iv) obtaining a composite flocculation agent (also the technology) Al(III)-Fe(III) within the desired proportions and synergic effect;(v) the toxicological and pollution control of each technological step in order to control the ecological risk.
Participative management will be implemented in the partners’ relationship, the coordination of the activities and the relation with the Contractual Authority. Structured into 5 chapters, corresponding also to the 5 working packages, this proposal is the outcome of the project management activities to which all partner entities have contributed.
The impact of the project, generated by its results, is found in the environment protection (reducing the metal and hydrocarbon pollution risk), technical/scientific (elaboration of technologies and toxicological and chemical analysis systems), economical (efficiency/costs ratio) and social (eliminating the risk regarding people’s health and creating new work places) aspects.
Solving this multi-, inter- and transdisciplinary project implies activities specific to industrial research supported on fundamental knowledge and activities. The results obtained in the frame of this project is a unitary technological process and corresponding industrial plant implemented at the industrial partner and will be disseminated by two patents, communications, publications both on national and international levels and by organizing one workshop.

Triterpenele pentaciclice, implicit şi acizii oleanolic şi ursolic, suscită un real interes în cadrul cercetărilor privind compuşii naturali antitumorali şi antiinflamatori. Dezavantajul major prezentat de triterpene este solubilitatea lor extrem de scăzută în apă, care poate determina o biodisponibilitate redusă. Proiectul îşi propune optimizarea solubilităţii în apă a unor triterpene pentaciclice, ce se poate realiza prin complexarea cu ciclodextrine hidrofile. Complecşii ciclodextrinici se obţin prin diverse metode şi se pot analiza fizico-chimic prin metode consacrate (dizolvare in vitro, analiza termică, difracţie de raze X, difuziune in vitro, etc.). Obţinerea nanostructurilor cu ciclodextrine amfifile şi triterpene se poate realiza spontan, în anumite condiţii, şi duce la posibilitatea terapiei la ţintă cu o cantitate mai mare de substanţă activă. Complecşii obţinuţi sunt supuşi analizei in vitro, prin testul MTT pe linii celulare tumorale, linii celulare care se vor utiliza pentru producerea modelelor animale prin inocularea la şoarecii C57BL/6J şi la şoarecii atimici BALB/c. Testele in vivo constau în testul CAM, pe ouă embrionate, pentru relevarea capacităţii antiangiogenice ale substanţelor active, precum şi în teste pe modelele animale obţinute anterior. Ultima etapă este reprezentată de evaluarea histologică şi imunohistochimică. Formulările cele mai performante vor fi brevetate şi publicate.

Abstract:
Studiul propus intentioneaza sa furnizeze date noi privind valorificarea indicatorilor vegetali ai metalelor din sol. Se vor corela datele despre calitatea solului cu cele privind compozitia chimica a acestor plante. Proiectul urmareste stabilirea unei interfete intre studiul esentialmente chimic (det erminarea cantitatii de metal) si studiul anatomo-morfologic al plantelor, evidentiind modificarile structurale si functionale pe care metalul le poate induce plantelor, la nivel macroscopic si microscopic. Se va porni de la premisa necesitatii protejarii atat a mediului natural (solul, subsolul, apa, aerul, flora si fauna), cat si a mediului antropizat, cu toate elementele artificiale introduse de om. Studiul va oferi un instrument rapid de evaluare a calitatii solului, prin detectarea din timp a unor eventuale modificari functionale si structurale a sistemelor biologice. Va fi studiata si reactia biosistemelor la modificarile survenite in mediu. O componenta importanta a proiectului este valorificarea plantelor analizate, prin obtinerea de extracte vegetale bogate in metale. Ca lucrarea de cercetare, studiul va largi baza de cunostinte privind influenta metalelor grele asupra cresterii si dezvoltarii unor specii de plante. In vederea cresterii capacitatii productive a plantelor, precum si obtinerii de produse noi, cu impact pozitiv asupra sanatatii oamenilor, finalitatea acestui proiect va consta in cercetari privind elaborarea de biotehnologii prin care sa se obtina produse noi, naturale, utilizabile in scopuri terapeutice.

Concomitent au loc manifestări interdisciplinare de conectare antreprenorială a domeniilor sănătate, economic cultural (ex. „Săptămâna antreprenoriatului în UMFVBT” ediția a II-a) și desfășurarea programului „Antreprenoriatul între vis și realitate” (a doua ediție) cu scopul realizării de training-uri și ateliere de lucru la sediul unor firme/organizații recunoscute în prezența unor antreprenori de succes. Se pregătesc materiale destinate informării și orientării studenților împreună cu alte structuri interconectate (organizaţiile studenţeşti legal constituite în instituţie, structurile de alumni, centrele de consiliere şi orientare în carieră).
Ob. II. Sprijinirea inițiativelor de afaceri ale studenților, doctoranzilor și absolvenților din primii trei ani de la finalizarea studiilor (lunile 3-9)
Se desfășoară sesiuni speciale de expunere, selecție/planificare finanțare a planurilor de idei și afaceri inovative (concept Health-Art-Community) cu implicarea studenților voluntari, realizarea de materiale de promovare, stabilirea de comisii de analiză și facilitarea contactului cu posibili investitori.
Ob. III. Managementul proiectului (lunile 1-9)
Este asigurat pe toată perioada proiectului și presupune supravegherea si coordonarea activităților propuse în proiect. Se realizează totodată toată partea birocratică (acte ale mebrilor echipei, proceduri de achiziții, rapoarte etc.)

Se are în vedere constituirea grupului SAStart Health compus din studenți/absolvenți, doctoranzi și tineri cercetători cu aptitudini antreprenoriale, șase mentori principali și o serie de formatori care să fie promotori ai implementării antrreprenoriatului în rândul organizațiilor studențești din domeniul sănătate. Totodată au loc manifestări specifice (ex. „Săptămâna antreprenoriatului în UMFVBT”, implementarea programului „Antreprenorialul între vis și realitate”), sistematizarea activităților de mentorat și formarea tinerilor antreprenori.
OB3. SUSȚINEREA IDEILOR INOVATOARE DE AFACERI ALE STUDENȚILOR/ABSOLVENȚILOR UMFVBT. CREAREA UNUI PROGRAM DE TIP START-UP. Sunt prevăzute sesiuni de participare a studenților/absolvenților cu proiecte personale sau proiecte de echipă (idei teme interdisciplinare) în prezența unor comisii alcătuite din mentori și antreprenori de succes în domeniu, concursuri pentru selectarea proiectelor cu idei inovatoare, manifestări de expuneri a planurilor de afaceri și constituirea punctului central de lucru și al platformei on-line SAStart Health.(lunile 2-9)

Flavonoids are a class of natural molecules with multipotent biologic properties arousing a true interest in therapeutics and micronutrition for their capacity to reduce the incidence of various cancer types. Among them, aurones and chalcones are less studied subclasses, with emerging biological potential. A major drawback on the therapeutic use of flavonoids is their reduced solubility in water. The project aims at preparing nanostructures with maximal bioavailability employing a standardized plant extract and chemopreventive flavonoids. The objectives of the project are : 1) to obtain an extract enriched in aurone and chalcone type flavonoids using as prime matter the wood of Cotinus coggygria; 2) the inclusion of the extract and some active principles (sulfuretin, butein) in cyclodextrins in order to enhance their hydrosolubility; 3) to obtain bioconjugates with rapid metabolization by derivatizing active flavonoids (sulfuretin, butein) followed by their complexation with cyclodextrins; 4) physic-chemical characterization of the obtained products; 5) in vitro evaluation of the soluble complexes on normal cells and five cancer cell lines (A375, A431, MDA-MB-231, HepG2, HT29) as well as the evaluation of anti-inflammatory activity on murine macrophages RAW264.7; 6) in vivo tests on embryonated eggs (CAM test for the evaluation of anti-angiogenic capacity) and on athymic Balb/c mice inoculated with cancer cells. The most efficient formulations will be subjects for patents.

Pentacyclic Triterpene is interesting in research of antitumor and anti-inflammatory natural compounds. Preparation of amphiphilic cyclodextrins and triterpene nanostructures can lead to therapy target with a greater amount of the active ingredient. The project aims to achieve and analyse pentacyclic triterpenes in microcrystalline form .
In the first stage, the packing interactions within existing pentacyclic triterpenes crystals will be studied in terms of electrostatic complementarity. A series of non-toxic molecules, which are likely to form interaction synthons in periodic arrangement will be proposed to be co-crystallized with the medicinal compounds.
In the second stage, we try to obtain these co-crystals in the French laboratory and determine they X-ray structure.
In stage three, the complexes obtained as microcrystals will be analyzed as pharmacological products to see whether or not the new microcrystals obtained lead to the modulation of pharmacokinetic respective pharmacological properties. Analyses of these inclusion complexes can be made in vitro on human tumour cell lines, animal models in mice by inoculation. Analyses of these complexes in vivo can reveal the capacity of anti-angiogenic activity in animal models previously obtained. Most advanced formulations will be patented and published.
