Abstract:

In the research project, the relationship between Christian piety and patterns of economic action is examined in a differentiated way. In addition to Reformed piety, which was the focus of Weber's study, Pentecostal, Catholic and Russian Orthodox piety styles are also included. In addition to the capital market mechanism of the market, our study also considers non-capitalist patterns, such as the economy of giving. The different piety styles and economic patterns of action are examined both in Switzerland and in Russia. In particular, we examine the question of whether elective affinities to non-capitalist patterns of economic action exist in Russian Orthodox piety styles.

From a scientific point of view, the research results should contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationship between religion and economics. From a practical point of view, we hope for impulses for a sustainable economy.
