Abstract:
The scope of this project is to develop an experimental device meant to demonstrate the feasibility of increasing the therapeutic potential of wheat sprouts (Triticum aestivum) by treating them with non-thermal activated water (PAW). The effect of natural products in the prophylaxis or even in the treatment of diseases is well known, since, in most cases, they have no side effects on the human body. Excellent results have been obtained following the introduction into the diet of natural products, even in cases considered incurable. Wheat sprouts are a rich source of nutrients (proteins, lipids, fibers, vitamins) and bioactive phytochemicals (BFT) (polyphenols, gamma-aminobutyric acid, etc.). The project propose the utilization of a non-thermal plasma-based technology (NTP) to produce plasma-activated water (PAW) aiming to increase the bioactive phytochemicals in wheat sprouts with benefits for human health and well-being. The technological innovation currently has been tested, as a small single laboratory unit, which can produce low concentrations of NO3- and H2O2 in water treated by non-thermal plasma. In order to bring this innovation to market, the key technical challenges of the proposal are referring to: the reactor/power supply scale-up to a laboratory complex equipment for PAW production, power supply optimization, long time tests of the complete system and correlation between the electrical parameters of the NTP with BFT produced by wheat sprouts.

Abstract:
The thematic of the project refers to the sustainable intensification of crop plants and systems of agriculture, by developing integrated, systems-based approaches to biomass increasing, organic pesticides and fertilizers, intensive land exploitation of greenhouses by using interdisciplinary and innovative technologies.
This project proposal aims implement some new methods of ecological and non-stressful treatment of plants for eliminating or reducing to a minimum of the quantity of chemical substances (pesticides) used for the protection of plants against the pathogen agents or for stimulating growth compounds (fertilizer).
The non-thermal plasma activated water (PAW) has a notable effect on the plants growing and pests elimination (bio-disinfection). PAW reduces the period of plants growing and increases the biomass and provides plants leaves disinfection and effective as bio fertilizer in the same time.
In addition, in order to obtain an intensive exploitation of greenhouses land use by increasing the biomass, the application of PAW treatments in the vegetation periods with high demand from the plant may have an increasing effect of biological resistance to the attacks of diseases (fungal and bacterial) manifested by crops grown in protected areas.
To emphasize the changes that occur due to PAW treatment on plant development stages specific horticultural tests and biochemical analysis in the leaves and fructification will be performed supplemented by numerous biometric phenological and production determinations.
It is expected to obtain stimulation of seeds germination, reducing the interval between sowing and growth Herbaceous energy annual crops species, a good development after planting, stimulating to increase foliar surface, increasing the number of flowers / plant, developing an immune system and finally the increasing economic competitiveness of plants yield.

Abstract:
