Abstract:
Starting from the high dynamics of the offshore wind industry noticed in the last years, the first objective of this project is to evaluate the expected wind parameters until the end of the 21st century considering different RCP scenarios. Various European coastal environments are targeted, including also the Black Sea. The results provided by regional atmospheric models (made available by the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute) will be processed and analyzed and on this basis, the expected performances of the most recent wind technologies will be assessed. From this perspective, the project results will allow designing recommendations to the manufacturers for improving the technologies and adapt them better to the expected wind conditions for the locations targeted. Another issue is represented by the synergy of the wind with wave and solar energy. At this point, the advantages of collocation against the implementation of hybrid technologies will be analyzed. Another important objective is represented by a more comprehensive assessment of the near and far-field effects of marine energy farms. An original computational platform, combining high-resolution solvers for the microscale, with wave and nearshore circulation models for the macroscale, will be implemented and used. Finally, studies of various farm configurations and evaluations concerning the medium and long term impact of the marine energy farms on the shoreline dynamics will be performed.
